Abstract: This research investigated youth participation initiatives in public schools, focusing on gender issues to characterize these mobilizations and to understand the motivations, interpretations, and impacts of the young participants’ engagement. The study was carried out with three youth collectives in state schools in São Paulo, Brazil. Using a qualitative approach, it involved semi-structured interviews with one young woman from each group, whose narratives highlighted four key dimensions: personal trajectory, collective action, internal organizational dynamics, and relationship with the school context. The theoretical framework draws on Joan Scott, Judith Butler, and Patricia Hill Collins in the debate on gender, inequality, and intersectionality, as well as on Helena Abramo’s concept of youth condition. The findings show that the participants develop intersectional perspectives and transform personal experiences within the collectives, creating new meanings through shared practices and critical learning processes that broaden the understanding of inequalities—including those of gender—as historically and socially embedded structural phenomena. Family support and partnerships with female teachers proved central to individual engagement and to strengthening the collectives. Outcomes of this participation include expanded future prospects, both for social and political involvement and for academic and professional pathways. At the same time, tensions emerged with the official curriculum and school practices, along with limited institutional recognition of the groups. The meanings attributed to individual experiences through collective action form critical repertoires that sustain resistance and inspire new ways of being and acting in school and social life, reinforcing the importance of guaranteeing young people’s right to participate

Abstract: This research investigates the relationship between adolescents aged 11 to 14 and smartphones, seeking to understand what kinds of knowledge are enabled by the apps they use most, regardless of school. The study’s objectives are to identify the apps most used by these young people; analyze their motivations for choosing and using these apps; and identify the potential knowledge that can be acquired. The study is based on Milton Santos' theories of the "technical-scientific-informational environment," which redefined geographical space in the age of globalization, and on Pierre Lévy's concepts of cyberculture. The research also analyzes the tension between UNESCO's humanist discourse and the market logic that permeates digital technologies. Data was collected from eight middle school students from a municipal public school through a focus group. The research revealed that while young people primarily use smartphones for entertainment and communication, they also demonstrate a remarkable ability to acquire informal knowledge, such as languages and gaming skills, and even use ChatGPT as a research tool. The results also show that adolescents have a critical perception of the apps' profit-driven logic, which leads them to question data exploitation and monetization. Their critiques of the "tyranny of the digital market" align with reflections on the "structural violence" of capitalism, where information is both a commodity and a tool of persuasion. In conclusion, the research argues that the smartphone has established itself as a true pedagogical arena, requiring schools to play a role that transcends the passive consumption of technology. The dissertation emphasizes the urgent need for education to act as a strategic and conscious mediator, aligned with the digital reality of young people. This role is fundamental for confronting UNESCO's humanist discourse with the imperatives of digital capital, empowering students to enhance human development

      <link>https://repositorio.pucsp.br/jspui/handle/handle/46513</link>
Abstract: This study aimed to analyze academic production on school dropout rates in the Federal Institutes network, through a trend analysis of master's dissertations and doctoral theses included in the Thesis and Dissertation Catalog of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) from 2013 to 2022, totaling 107 studies, whose information was statistically processed using Sphinx iQ2 software. To this end, based on the contributions of Raymond Williams' Cultural Materialism (2011), the information from these studies was surveyed, organized, and categorized under four axes of analysis: when these investigations were carried out in the above-mentioned period; who, institutionally, carried out these investigations; what was investigated; and what procedures were adopted. The main findings seem to express that the growth of academic production on high school dropout in IFs shows, on the one hand, that the expansion of their units and campuses favors this network being seen as another major field of research with a focus on public education but, on the other hand, that this same growth, combined with affirmative action policies, seems to bring problems that did not exist previously, when entry and permanence at the Institutes was more elitist

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the Brazilian academic production on the relationship between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and language, through a trend analysis of master's dissertations and doctoral theses from the Catalog of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel – CAPES, from 2013 until 2023. For that matter, based on the contributions of Raymond Williams' Cultural Materialism (1980), information from these productions was surveyed, organized, and categorized into four analytical axes: (a) when the investigations were conducted; (b) which institutions carried them out; (c) what topics were investigated; and (d) how the research was conducted. The information was compiled in an Excel spreadsheet and subsequently exported to the Sphinx Iq2 statistical software for the construction of tables and graphs, forming the empirical basis for analyzing the main research trends in Brazilian postgraduate studies on this topic. Analysis of the 105 selected abstracts revealed a stronger focus on the field of language particularly on oral language and a methodological reliance on evaluative procedures and standardized protocols as research instruments. The investigations conducted made it possible to understand the trends of the Brazilian educational scenario, revealing a stronger focus on the field of Language and its Disorders rather than on educational practices
